Rasgos de Pluma

Rasgos de Pluma is an exhibition based on the deconstruction of La Marinera, a very influential Peruvian folk dance that is performed culturally all around the country. Colonially inherited from the Spanish Flamenco, the particular dance is a highly structured courtship between a man and a woman, which assumes gender roles to both of the dancers. Finally, the project extends through overlapping elements: The straw sculptures, from deconstructed hats only the male dancer wears in the dance uniform. The performance, which aimed to reconstruct a new non-binarial courtship between the artist and Jose Vilca, Peruvian queer artist, at Trujillo’s Museum of Modern Art. And the installation followed by a second performance in Paijan Gallery. This work was commissioned by Paijan Gallery and curated by Gerardo Chavez-Maza, in Trujillo, Peru.
